The individual water controls hot and cold on either side are repaired and serviced as individual taps and repair information for leaks and failure here can be found in our repairing a dripping tap project. When it comes to repairing a mixer tap, the spout is the weak link and can sometimes leak at the base.
This can be repaired quite easily and details are covered below. Mixer spouts are held on in three ways, either there is a large snap ring between the spout and the body this is normally hidden by a "skirt" which either screws down or is held in position with a very small "grub" screw, normally at the back which can be closed and removed with a pair of pliers. In some cases there is a small grub screw at the back, which when undone will allow the spout to be pulled upward from the body and finally, some mixer spouts have no actual fixing holding them in.
This type allows you to simply pull up on the spout and release it from the grip of the seal which is generally on the bottom of the spout. The first two mentioned above have normally got a seal ring within the base. This seal ring, over time, will wear and cause leaks, usually from the base of the spout. As you may imagine from the above, to resolve any leaks of this kind you will need to replace the seal ring.
Once you have removed the spout, look down inside the neck and locate the seal ring. In some cases you will be able to hook the seal out with your finger but if you are unable to use a small flat edge screwdriver to hook the seal out.
Depending on the make and model of your mixer tap will in some cases depend on the size of replacement seal ring you will need to use. The quickest and easiest way to get an exact match replacement is to keep the old one and take a trip down to your local plumbers merchants and ask them for an exact replacement or a plumbers repair kit seen below.
You may be lucky enough to have a selection of washers, O-rings, seals etc… in the form of a plumbers repair kit. If so have a look through and see if you can find a replacement. If not, then you will have to resort to a trip to your local plumbers merchants.Discussion in ' Plumbing and Central Heating ' started by fleabo11 Jan If you need to find a tradesperson to get your job done, please try our local search below, or if you are doing it yourself you can find suppliers local to you.

Ikea ceramic disc taps
Ikea kitchen mixer leaking at base of swivel head Discussion in ' Plumbing and Central Heating ' started by fleabo11 Jan I have an Ikea mixer tap photo below that leaks at its base when the cold water is turned on. The leak is between the sink and the base of the tap. Can just see it on the photo. I am presuming new O-ring s will sort the problem out. Before I start, what is the sequence to gain access to the O-rings?
And what size O-rings am I likely to need? Inside the hole is a small worm screw which loosens with a small allen key. You then take the lever off. Grip the chrome dome and unscrew by hand. Under that is a large brass nut, which unscrews with a decent sized spanner to release the cartridge. The problem is finding spare parts to replace on IKEA products.
NobbyTucker7 Nov Hi, I have just come across the same issue. Have you managed to rectify your problemor replaced a tap all together? I have come across advice to replace a whole cartridge. Would local plumbing suppliers have cartridges for Ikea taps, or is the whole cartridge non standard as well?Original Poster.

I have been searching everywhere online, but it doesn't state what sized cartridge "" is! My tap is nearly 2 hours drive away, so I'd like to buy the required cartridge now and not have to drive there to disassemble and remove the old one etc.
Thanks in advance. I am sorry I can't confirm. I bought two different sizes and I believe the smaller one fitted but it had a completely different pattern on it so wouldn't work. I searched on the internet for a similar one whilst out in France but to no avail. I took the original apart flipped the floating disk and packed one side with some tape to press the pieces together getting a tighter fit with the seal Internally.Y, Decorating D. Y, Gardening D. IKEA Alsvik tap dripping. Which cartridge?
Screwfix Community Forum. Tags: ceramic tap valve dripping ikea. Just when I thought I might get a bit of a break — bath tap fixed, new basin taps installed, cistern leak fixed — the kitchen tap decides to kick off and start dripping.
I have read other threads online with people having success at taking their Loviken taps apart and cleaning the ceramic discs.
There seem to have been two versions of this tap — one ours was supplied fully constructed, and the other required the user to fit the tap handles together themselves.
When the tap handles are removed, there is a smooth chrome cap over the valve with the splines coming up through the hole. Have tried lots of WD I know the advice might be to replace the whole tap, or replace the Ikea tap AND sink with something standard.
For cost reasons, we would really rather try to repair the tap if we can, and it seems as if it should be possible — if only I can get into the damn thing. Any suggestions?
Someone else seems to have had problems getting the handle off the splines, but no one mentions the cap. Can post pics if it would help. Tap 2. WillingToLearnJun 12, You may damage the cap, but hey! That's life, modern taps are either cheap rubbish, or expensive rubbish, just not much quality about with plumbing fittings Almost everybody wants to pay less for fittings, so the quality is low across the board Rant over Regards Peter.
Just moved into a place with this tap and cold is also dripping. I got the cap off and the part Willing to Learn was stuck on, but can't get the quarter turn level off.

I have a mixer tap in the kitchen and have a leak from the base under the hot water tap, it only comes from here and no where else. Kaz69Mar 29, No, don't just use a sealant round the base That will only mean that the water will come out underneath, below the sink instead. It quite possibly is already! If it really is leaking from there, you absolutely certain it's not just appearing there having tracked down from further up the tap?Canon in d rock tab guitar pro
Then the actual fix can be determined. Regards, Cando. Under tap you say Plumbers mate. Very thin amounts spread. Get it warm so it spreads, do the best you can and warm tap to.
Screw back on to clamp and seal. Silicone will fail.
WaynersMar 29, Put a thin amount of clear silicone around tap base. If water stops leaking you know it's the shoulder washer. I find silicone don't last. Never that fussed on the shoulder washers either as they fail to.

For a deck mixer tap to leak, then the water must come from: 1. Under the sink, an which case it will probably be a fine spray from the tap connector. Unlikely 2. A fault where the tap tail goes into the body. Highly unlikely 3. Above the sink, in which case it will be: a. From the hot tap itself, either via the spindle or the body of the tap under the shroud. From water running down from the spout usually where it joins the body and swivels and collecting at the base.
The tap should have come with a flat washer the size of the body of the tap with two holes for the tap tails. These can fail. Replacement e. This is just to prevent water running under taps and hence under sink. You'll have to identify just where the leak is coming from.Discussion in ' Plumbers' Talk ' started by oldgitOct 13, Log in or Sign up. Screwfix Community Forum.
Ikea ceramic disc taps Discussion in ' Plumbers' Talk ' started by oldgitOct 13, Does anyone have any experience dismantling ceramic disc taps? Control on hot side has developed a lot of play, feels very loose. On a normal tap I'd be looking to tighten the retaining screw, but this design doesn't have one.Drone mapper tutorial
There's a single screw at back of tap, looks like it retains the concentric spout but I'd rather not undo it unless I know this is the official 'way in'. It's still under guarantee, and as it works ok I can't make a claim.
And the people at Ikea 'know nothing'. Any one out there met this one before?? Does anyone out there know what 'IKEA' means? Just out of interest. Lightning McQueenOct 13, From the net So IKEA isn't really a meaningful word, but the story of the company is interesting in itself, sort of like "The Little Match Girl," but with a happy ending. In Hans Christian Andersen's famous fable, a poor urchin perishes after being sent out on the frozen city streets to sell matches.
But in the IKEA story, an enterprising farm boy builds match-selling into a global empire. Born in in the Swedish village of Agunnaryd, young Ingvar Kamprad got his start in business by riding his bicycle from farm to farm selling wooden matches to his neighbors. Once everyone had a supply of matches, Ingvar wisely decided to diversify his offerings, and soon was pedaling around the countryside delivering Christmas tree ornaments, ball point pens and, though it must have been a bit awkward, fresh fish.
By age 17, Ingvar had formed his own company and named it IKEA, an acronym made up of his own initials IKthe name of his family's farm Elmtarydand the village of his birth, Agunnaryd.
AlanRobOct 13, Well I'm sure we all needed to know that. But how to mend a tap made by WRAS?? Maybe a helpful plumber will read this??
Just realised, WRAS isn't the manufacturer, it's the approval agency. But how can I cure the wobbly knob? MFI stands for 'Most fittings included'. WalterfilterOct 14, I'm not familar with this particular tap but look carefully at the tap and see if there are any small holes through which you could get an allen key, or its possible that the loose piece is just a tight push fight.
Incidentally the tap could be construed not to working properly as a piece is loose, I would have thought that it was not designed to be loose and is therefore faulty.
Leak from base of tap in kitchen
The Ex-Kitchen FitterOct 14, Unless it's a very odd design the indicator on the top of the hot control knob should prise out or unscrew to reveal a retaining screw. It's probably loose. I'm constantly tightening these up on kitchen and bathroom mixers as a complimentary service when I'm fitting showers etc.
You will need to undo the retaining screw and remove the knob, followed by the cover that hides the hexagon on the cartridge. You can then unscrew the cartridge and inspect. Mullard was the maiden name of one othe the co-founders, Donald Searle.
